It is one of India's largest district court complexes, housing over 150 courtrooms across multiple court blocks, dedicated family court wings, Sessions Court blocks, and Chief Metropolitan Magistrate courts. The complex is accessible by Metro via Tis Hazari Metro Station on the Red Line.
Unlike other Delhi court complexes, Tis Hazari houses two entirely separate district court setups: the Central District Courts covering Central Delhi and the North District Courts covering North Delhi. Each has its own District Judge, Family Court Principal Judge, and independent registry. Cases must be filed before the correct district's court based on jurisdiction.
The Family Court at Tis Hazari hears all matrimonial matters including divorce petitions, maintenance applications, child custody petitions, and restitution of conjugal rights under the Hindu Marriage Act, Muslim Personal Law, Special Marriage Act, and other applicable personal laws.
