Fifteen years.
One practice.
Unmatched depth.

When Advocate Aman Chawla founded The Matrimonial Lawyers, he made a deliberate choice that defines the firm to this day: no generalism. Only family law — exclusively, obsessively, and with a rigour that comes from doing one thing for fifteen years.

That focus has produced a practice trusted by hundreds of families across Delhi NCR, and by NRI clients from the US, UK, Canada, and the UAE who need decisive legal action in India without being present for every hearing.

“I decided early that I would either be truly exceptional at one thing, or mediocre at many. Family law chose me — and I chose it back.”

How long does a divorce take in Delhi?+
Mutual consent divorce typically takes 6–18 months. A contested divorce can take 2–5 years depending on grounds and disputed matters. We give you a realistic timeline during consultation.
Can I get interim custody before the case is decided?+
Yes. Indian family courts routinely grant interim custody orders within days of filing. We have secured interim custody within 48 hours of filing in urgent matters.
I live abroad. Can you handle my divorce without me being in India?+
In most cases, yes. Through a General Power of Attorney, we appear on your behalf at most hearings. Most NRI clients need to travel to India only once, or sometimes not at all.
What is a 498A case and what should I do if one is filed against me?+
Section 498A makes cruelty to a wife a cognisable, non-bailable offence. The most critical first step is Anticipatory Bail — which we can typically secure within 24–48 hours. Do not speak to police before consulting us.
How is maintenance calculated, and how much can I expect?+
Maintenance depends on income of both parties, lifestyle during marriage, age, health, and children involved. We analyse all financial disclosures and advocate for a figure reflecting the marriage’s standard of living.
Is my first consultation truly free and confidential?+
Yes — completely. Everything you share is protected by attorney-client privilege. There is no commitment of any kind. Many clients find that the first conversation gives them clarity and calm they had not expected.
